I read with great interest about the Oceano man who was using his new drone fitted with a GoPro camera to do a bit of whale watching last weekend at Avila Beach (“Neighborhood watch: Catching a glimpse of the whales at Avila Beach,” June 15).
Personally, I enjoyed photographing the whale I saw using more conventional methods, and got a few decent shots. But reading about a drone got me annoyed because, well, it annoys the whale.
But then I got to really thinking — how exactly is it safe to fly a drone several thousand yards from Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant?
Imagine a drone just like the one Mr. Bryan Crber was using fitted with a powerful explosive device instead of a GoPro camera.

No more drone play near the whales, please — or the nukes!
