Like so many before it (NAFTA, CAFTA, etc.), the currently evolving socalled “free trade” agreement, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), is a concoction of anti-labor, anti-environmental and generally antidemocratic provisions and processes that has been written in secret by corporate representatives, corporate lobbyists, career bureaucrats and various interests bent on maximizing worldwide corporate profits at the expense of everyone and everything else.
Congress cannot amend it, only approve it or disapprove it, and lawmakers can’t even have an actual copy of it until right before it’s put to a vote. If the TPP is so great, why is it being hidden?
Massive loss of American jobs followed the other “free trade” scams. This one will be no different.
Decisions by the “tribunals” of the so-called partnership, all unelected, cannot be appealed, but corporations can sue governments and regular citizens who “interfere with” or challenge their manipulations and obscene profits.
Gee, what could be wrong or go wrong with that arrangement?
Supposedly “progressive” Barack Obama is solidly for the TPP, and he’s been pushing for it heavily, telling people to “trust” him and that the TPP “is much better than those other agreements.”
Obama needs to be defeated on this. Urge a “no” vote on the TPP!
