Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center applauds the decision of the San Luis Obispo City Council to ban the use of Styrofoam. As a concerned corporate citizen, and one that is committed to the health and well-being of our community, Sierra Vista initiated Going Green at Sierra Vista in 2009.
For nearly the past two years, Sierra Vista has been virtually polystyrene free. Our serving dishes, cups and flatware are all compostable, and our cafeteria features a recycling and compost center.
In the first year of the initiative, Sierra Vista retrofitted its facility to save more than 500,000 gallons of water and later added an extensive recycling program that has redirected about 20 percent less waste to landfills. We think being environmentally friendly is good for our environment and good for our community.
