Regarding the Las Pilitas Quarry Board of Supervisors’ vote on May 12:
1. San Luis Obispo County planning staff, professionals hired for knowledge in such matters, analyzed the proposal for over five years and made an impartial decision based on factual evidence.
They recommend the project be denied.
2. Hand-picked planning commissioners read the documents, then listened to two days of testimony from both sides before deliberating and voting to deny this project.
3. If on May 12, supervisors override all the known knowledge about this project, and vote for it, what does that say about them? Why would they rule against their staff and their commissioners? Is it for bigger campaign contributions? Or is it because their ideology demands that money takes precedence over people?
Or is it because one LLC business’ right to make truckloads of money is more important than the rights and safety of people? Supervisors, I encourage you to uphold your oath of office and recognize that your responsibility extends to the people of this county and not to your re-election.
