The Northern Chumash Tribal Council would like to thank everyone who has supported the drive to nominate a Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary for the Central Coast. (“Marine sanctuary proposal rejected,” March 17.) We can assure them that their support has not been in vain, and will continue to be important going forward, as we supply the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration with the additional information it has requested in order to achieve acceptance of the nomination.
We knew the path was long when we first set out. We will continue until we reach the end: achieving vital protections for one of the most culturally and biologically diverse coastlines in the world, in a way that defines “thriving” — to prosper, to flourish, to grow well or vigorously — for all the residents of the land and sea.
