Tiered water rates are turning Nipomo into a dust bowl.
Many people can’t afford to irrigate their large properties due to the tiered rate system, nor can they afford to re-landscape. So they are letting their plants die, and the results are hundreds of dirt-covered yards that are polluting the air.
Just because some people have large properties doesn’t mean that they are rich.
An article published Feb. 28 in The Tribune told of a court in Orange County that found tiered rates are illegal, (“Lawsuit challenges tiered water rates in SoCal city”).
There are other methods of conservation that will reduce usage without resorting to social engineering.
