I was actually shocked to hear that the food warehouses in the North and South County might consolidate. I so understand the need for cutting costs, but cannot see how this will save dollars and help those who the Food Bank serves.
While those in South County will also have a long way to go to get to a San Luis Obispo site, those in the North County will have to contend with the Cuesta Grade. While that is not “bad” per se, it does mean that the perception will most certainly be that it’s “over the hill” and too far — and those who get the food from the warehouse to those who need it would definitely be impacted.
I don’t have an answer, but I hope that they will reconsider and see if there isn’t a less drastic way to reduce costs.
