There have been quite a lot of comments lately regarding the placement and/or relocation of the Atascadero Junior High.
I would like to suggest that anyone with children that are currently attending the junior high or will be attending in a few years drive out to the San Benito site, park your car and walk to the Community Center, the library or downtown. It is just about 3 miles along Traffic Way, a heavily trafficked road with very little sidewalk. It is dangerous.
The advocates for a retail hub where the school is currently located need to remember how long and how much town money it took to partially construct and partially fill the Century Plaza retail space. I would venture that there is no one clamoring to buy and build at the junior high site.
There is a perfectly good “retail hub” planned for the north end of El Camino, which could also serve the needs of Templeton. Let’s get it built. And, let’s leave our children safe access to the Community Center, library and downtown.
