Tireless port advocate

The Port San Luis Harbor Commission is the governing body of Port San Luis and Avila Beach. This includes the Avila and Harford piers, the small-boat launching facilities, the beaches, playgrounds, RV park and vendors.

The commission’s job is to oversee operations of the port to protect the sensitive marine environment while maximizing access to all of the wonderful resources the port has to offer.

No one will do this better than Mary Matakovich. She is a tireless advocate for the community and has served on numerous committees and associations dealing with port issues, including the Avila Beach Civic Association, Port San Luis Lighthouse, San Luis Yacht Club and the Fisherman’s Association. She was appointed by Supervisor Adam Hill to serve as the Avila Valley Community Advisory Council liaison to Port San Luis. Her experience as an educator has given her the skills to listen to all sides of complex issues, and she does her homework. When she served as an interim commissioner in the past, she showed this strength of character when she was in the minority in opposing seismic testing off Diablo Canyon.

I urge you to join me in voting for Mary Matakovich for Port San Luis Harbor commissioner.
