As an independent voter, I find it really puzzling that, after eight years of George W. Bush and six years of Barack Obama, recent polls by CBS, The New York Times and YouGov Polls show that Americans prefer Republicans to Democrats (or independents).
I thought that a reasonable percentage of the electorate was plain stupid, but I do not think so anymore.
I have come to believe that, in this country, we have a certain percentage of voters — Republican, Democrat and independent — who decide elections.
These voters are non-ideological, low-information and perception-driven, and can be easily deceived. These voters elected Bush twice and Obama twice. These voters continue to elect senators and representatives who should be sent packing after one term.
I do not expect anything to change next November. I hope I am wrong.
