Thousands of Central American children are fleeing to America to escape the drug lords who exploit them in order to evade America’s war on drugs while keeping up with America’s unending demand for the drugs that America does not allow within its borders. That mixed message is the reason why the refugees in the Rio Grande Valley are America’s responsibility.
These are refugees of the war on drugs that America started in 1971. We need to secure our borders, but changing our drug and sentencing laws might be even more effective.
