Applicant Dero Parker responds to resident concerns about oil drilling in Huasna Valley by offering to pay for a motel so they can leave (“Bakersfield oilman downsizes plan to drill in Huasna Valley,” July 22).
Mr. Parker is quoted as saying, “If they want to go to Santa Barbara and stay at the Four Seasons — I don’t care.”
He may have been referring to the drilling process, but his “just leave” attitude demeans legitimate concerns of families who have lived, worked and created a home in the area for years, and it shows a disregard for the very real impacts a yearlong project will have on the environment, lives and property.
