The flood of children across our southern border is at least partly our fault. These children are fleeing Central American countries controlled by violent drug cartels. In turn, these drug cartels exist and thrive because we provide the market for their drugs. Without the American drug market, the cartels would probably vanish.
Maybe the answer is to legalize, regulate, sell and tax these drugs? Take the profit out of them, like alcohol after the end of Prohibition. Treat the drug problem like the public health problem it is, instead of a criminal problem that packs our prisons. Just a thought.
