Laguna Lake has been silting at an alarming and unnatural rate, ever since developers were allowed to redirect Prefumo Creek from its original meander to a straight channel feeding into the lake.
We are reaping the unintended results of the hubris of old-white-men engineering.
Now the city of San Luis Obispo suggests that those who live nearby should assess themselves to help pay to undo the damage.
We do not assess those who live near the swimming pool. We do not assess those who live near any of our parks. We do not assess those who live near open spaces. We do not assess residents who live near any number of other public amenities that the city provides. The city is responsible for maintaining its assets. If this ridiculous idea makes it to the ballot, I’ll vote no.
