News stories are abounding of current California wildfires, tributes to the Yarnell Fire hotshots who died fighting the fire in Arizona, safety precautions and regulations for fireworks, law enforcement readiness, and the seasonal stands selling the fireworks.
I’m not a rocket scientist, but it seems to me that it’s time to ban the fireworks that spark fires and replace them with a huge simulated light show (complete with “bombs-bursting-in-air” sounds) reflected off a sky canopy of clouds (real or man-made).
I am challenging Cal Poly professors and students of engineering, cosmology and computer sciences to create such a sky-screen that would make it possible to project fireworks and other light shows such as the aurora borealis across our skies.
