At its Feb. 6 meeting, the San Luis Obispo Planning Commission ignored staff’s recommendation to approve McDonald’s application to build a restaurant at the former Bank of America building in Los Osos with its existing drive-thru. The commission decided that McDonald’s did not need a drive-thru, knowing that the decision was a dealbreaker.
McDonald’s has appealed this decision, and the appeal is tentatively scheduled for the April 8 San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors hearing. I urge the Board of Supervisors to overturn the Planning Commission’s decision and allow McDonald’s to build their restaurant using the existing drive-thru.
Morro Bay has at least three restaurants and two banks with drive-thrus. Los Osos has Rabobank with a drive-thru and this 8-year-vacant building with an existing drive-thru. As much as of 70 percent of a restaurant’s business can be done through the drive-thru. Let McDonald’s get on with building a restaurant there.
