I am a sociology senior at Cal Poly, and I agree with administrators in enforcing the new Greek party registration system. This new policy will stop any party with a discriminatory theme before it happens, and also help reduce police resources used to monitor these parties. Students who want to come to this campus and don’t like the new policy can find another college. With a waitlist of 20,000 students, I am sure some students would be happy to abide by this policy. I have friends who grew up in this area and don’t have time to party, work their butts off to survive and would love to take the spots of those who don’t agree with the policy.
This new policy also shows Poly’s administration in good faith that with increased enrollment, there will be more monitoring of university parties. There are young families, retirees and an elementary school located near campus. Many of these people can’t relocate and were here first, and these residents deserve the respect of having peace in their neighborhoods.
