Since I became a citizen in 1999, I have worked at the polls on many election days. To do so is one of the most affirming experiences one can have; witnessing people coming out to cast their ballots, bringing and teaching their children. But the biggest affirmation of the soundness of our system is the training we as poll workers get in order to make sure every vote will count, that everyone who wants to will get a shot. If there is any difficulty in front of a properly registered voter hindering his or her ability to successfully cast a ballot, we will find a way around it.
This clarity of purpose for the volunteers comes from the top, and I attribute it to the dedication and professionalism of Julie Rodewald. I believe this county owes Julie a deep debt of gratitude and I wish her the best in her well-deserved retirement.
