The recall effort in Morro Bay is in reality a movement to shoot the messenger . For more than five years, the California Coastal Commission had been writing letters to the previous mayors and council that rebuilding the wastewater treatment plant in a location less than one football field from the ocean was not going to be permitted.
At the Coastal Commission meeting, when the final vote was 11-0 against, our newly elected Mayor Jamie Irons publicly acknowledged fact: He was the messenger who apologized for the wasted time and effort of the Commission that the previous Morro Bay mayors and council had caused. He stopped the endless costs for studies and lobbyist. Mayor Irons is the messenger stating the obvious: You can’t have a sewer plant on the beach.
Don’t shoot the messenger. Don’t sign the recall.
