Obamacare ‘failure’

In his Dec. 23 opinion piece regarding the Affordable Care Act, John Peschong includes a number of unsubstantiated claims and untrue statements. Perhaps the most outrageous is his assertion that, “Obama used the story of Jessica Sanford, a single mother from Washington who was now able to afford health insurance thanks to Obamacare. It turned out that she was given the wrong information, and now her insurance is even more expensive than before.”

This story was played up big time by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, but they left out an important part of the story. Sanford’s son was discovered to qualify for Medicaid coverage at a cost of just $30 a month. He has ADHD and, according to Sanford, it costs them $250 a month for prescription drugs alone, which will now all be covered.

When the error was corrected, Sanford’s monthly premium went from $198 to $280, but the cost of her son’s drugs went from $250 to $30 a month. So, this family, who had been uninsured for the last 15 years because health insurance was too expensive, can now be totally insured for a net cost of $60 a month.

Another “Obamacare failure.”
