Imprisoned for speech

Here in the United States, we take for granted our right to freely express our opinions on controversial issues, politics, or current events. But all over the world, people are imprisoned or even killed for expressing their opinions or criticizing government authorities.

Every year, during the holiday season, hundreds of thousands of people take part in Amnesty International’s Write-a-Thon to send messages of hope to Prisoners of Conscience around the world. Please join us Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Linnea’s Cafe, 1110 Garden St., San Luis Obispo to sign a Card of Hope and help shine some light into a dark prison cell. Petitions will also be available to sign asking for the release of people who are imprisoned for the peaceful expression of their beliefs. Give the gift of hope this holiday season.
