Letters to the Editor

No backtracking

I agree wholeheartedly with M.J. Johnson’s letter of Nov. 16. He/she hit the nail on the head — the problem is with the insurance companies, the third party involved that only cares about money. There was probably no way Barack Obama could have passed the legislation without involving the insurance companies.

I think the problem is that the legislation and agreement with the insurance companies did not address what he was promising the public — that they would not lose their current coverage, coverage that in many instances was not adequate. I honestly believe he should not backtrack at this point. Changes now will only confuse the insurance companies, create more delays and give the Republicans fodder for their negativity campaign. Let’s play it out and see what happens. It is still better than nothing and can be improved.
