Nov. 2, we held the Second Annual Toys for Tots Doubles Horseshoe Tournament at the Paloma Creek Park Horseshoe Courts. The entry fee was $10 a person plus a $15-to-$20-valued toy. Each player received a T-shirt.
During the course of the day, Denny Currier and Jerry Jenkins came out the champions with a 6-1 record. Second place went to Anthony Carroll and Eric Turner, who battled Denny and Jerry in the championship game. At the end of the day, we collected 28 toys and then purchased another $250 worth of toys that was given to the local Kiwanis Club for the Toys for Tots Foundation. I would like to thank the sponsors that donated to this event: Mission Linen Supply, Fred Bruen-Realtor, George and Gaye Galvin, Peoples Choice Appliance Repairs, Western Janitor Supply Inc., Dale Gomer and Affordable Appliance Repair.
On a not-so-happy note, a brickbat to The Tribune’s sports editor, who doesn’t think horseshoes is a sport and wouldn’t run an article in the sports section advertising the event, and a double brickbat to the same editor who wouldn’t answer an email .
However, thanks to all who came out.
