Letters to the Editor

Entertaining ads

Although I have no plans to buy or sell a home, I read The Tribune’s real estate advertising sections faithfully for the entertainment value.

So, a word to all you realtors out there: Thanks for the creative misspellings — the other day one cited a house’s “elegence.” Some of you tout houses that have a “peak” of the ocean. I can only assume that you think mountain ranges have peeks, although I don’t know what they’d be peeking at.

Then there’s the exuberant use of capital letters — apparently just for the fun of it — the wild abandon with which apostrophes are tossed in, along with the confusion between “its” and “it’s,” and the sheer gaiety of all those exclamation points livening up your text. As I said, entertainment value.
