The flag’s colors

Where are we in California are we in a state that is within the United States of America, or are we in a state of paralysis by anarchy? I refer to the recent article regarding the “Fight over the flag” (Tribune, March 5) where Caltrans will not allow the posting of the U.S. flag, and the reference to the “United States” on the monument’s military emblems on Caltrans property in Orcutt.

The position Caltrans has taken is stated to be in conformance with the U.S. 9th Circuit of Appeals ruling in 2003. In that ruling, the 9th Circuit Court essentially equated the U.S. flag to activists’ antiwar banners. I submit that Caltrans and the 9th Circuit Court have lost their focus on who we are and what has been fought for. Shame on us, and those who are public servants, for tolerating this paralysis of identity and loyalty.

Remember the stars in the U.S. flag represent the states of the union, white represents purity and innocence, red represents hardiness and valor, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
