Thank you SLO County motorists! The San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club thanks SLO County motorists for their patience and courtesy during our annual Lighthouse Bike Ride on Sept. 29. Approximately 1,400 cyclists rode from Morro Bay to the Piedras Blancas lighthouse and enjoyed a tour of our beautiful coastline.
This year we partnered with Morro Bay High School and used the campus as the start and finish point for the ride. This created an opportunity for the school’s Booster Club and the cheerleading squad to hold fundraising events. In addition, the city of Morro Bay enjoyed a boost in tourism revenue from out-of-town riders who stayed in local motels and ate in local restaurants. The club plans to continue and enhance our partnership with the city of Morro Bay and Morro Bay High School next year.
Proceeds from this ride and our Wildflower Ride, held each April, enable the SLO Bicycle Club to donate nearly $60,000 annually to local advocacy groups, schools, community organizations and scholarship funds for local high school and college students.
