Letter: Kids not learning

The Sept. 4 front page article by the Associated Press on poor school attendance misses an important point. Kids are skipping school and dropping out because they’re not learning. They are smart enough to realize that government schools are failing to help them. They vote with their feet.

I’ve heard of students going to high school, then leaving after a single class. When confronted, they said it was a great class, but the only one worth attending. Forget prizes and gimmicks. Provide a good education, and they will come.
