I am writing this to personally thank everyone who responded to Bill Morem’s column, “19-year-old traffic ticket from hell” (July 25). My name is Shirley Goetz, and I am forever grateful and in awe at the response from our community! I am deeply moved and inspired by everyone who offered a hand of service to better my situation. I was once in fear of losing my home because of an unpaid misdemeanor traffic ticket from Arizona that resurfaced 19 years later.
I reached out to Tribune writer Bill Morem, who took an interest in my story and showed a genuine concern. He told me to “never lose faith, there are angels out there!”
The day the article came out, I received a call from Morem informing me that a local law firm had offered to pay the fines in full! He also said he had received numerous responses from several law firms willing to help and countless responses from local citizens.
I am writing this to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone! It has taught me renewed faith and hope for the future. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place, and no matter what your situation may be, the love in the hearts of the people is what makes life worth living!
