I doubt that presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes in recent years. However, I have little doubt that what he did pay was a much lower rate of tax than the middle income American family. Additionally, Mr. Romney has advocated still lower rates of federal income tax for high income earners such as himself.
His attitude toward paying taxes is woefully reminiscent of Leona Helmsley who famously stated, “We (wealthy people) don’t pay taxes. Only the little people (not so wealthy) pay taxes.” It seems the upcoming presidential election offers the American people a clear choice between still lower taxes for the wealthy individuals/ corporations and higher taxes for the rest of us. I know who I will be voting for.
