The Central Coast Renaissance Festival just concluded a very successful weekend. This was our 28th year and, in my opinion, was the best ever. Approximately 5,000 guests came to enjoy the shows, the food and especially the joust. The photos on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CentralCoastRenaissanceFestival give you an idea of how spectacular the weekend was.
We want to thank all of our guests, without whom there would be no money to produce the festival. Thanks to our actors, participants, vendors and volunteers who turned the park into a living village and managed to entertain and feed more than 5,000 people. Thanks also to Cal Fire, El Chorro Regional Park, Cuesta College and the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden for their assistance and cooperation.
A generation has grown up with this festival. Katrina Sanders, one of the amazing female jousters that weekend, said she came to the festival when she was a young girl and that it inspired her to learn jousting. Many youngsters were inspired by Virginia Hankins, an accomplished archer, swordswoman, jouster and actress. Showing people that history is much more exciting than what you read in a textbook is one of our proudest accomplishments.
We look forward to seeing you at the 29th annual event next summer.
