Letter: Respect for food

Re: The revolting photo of “Jaws” at the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island printed in the July 5 edition of The Tribune.

He won the contest by wolfing down 68 hot dogs with buns. Considering there are millions of people starving in the world, this excess is particularly repugnant. Food should be used with respect, not as entertainment.

It is an affront to the people who labor long and hard to raise and grow the food when it is used in such a manner. Pie-eating contests are just as bad.
