Richard Maytum (letters, July 24) bemoans what he feels is an assault on Christianity. Two statements lead me to believe he overstates his case: a) “Christians who hold Bible studies in their homes in places (like Phoenix) get fined thousands of dollars and put in jail for 60 days” and b) “Does it matter that the only ones losing their freedom of speech are Christians?”
I doubt that the first statement is completely accurate and there is ample evidence that Christians, along with all other Americans, have retained their freedom of speech. Witness the political campaign now in full swing!
