As someone raised to reject evolution and cherry-pick reasoning to reach preconceived ideas, the statement, “Since one species has never given birth to a different species, evolution can’t be true” was very convincing.
But, after being exposed to others and researching the facts, I’ve learned evolution happens so gradually it’s like a fade between two colors: Where exactly does blue end and red begin?
Just as we don’t name a new color every time one pixel of red is added to blue, we don’t name every generation a new species. A rabbit will never give birth to anything but what we would call a rabbit. But they, along with us, are gradually changing genetically, and if we were to skip over millions of generations, what they, and we, changed into wouldn’t be called rabbits or people anymore.
Change over time (evolution) is fact, such as gravity is fact. It’s not in a country’s best interest to ignore facts. America is getting left behind in science, health and education. We fall between 12th and 28th in the world for math, reading and science, and first in incarceration. We’ve devolved.
