This is in response to Joe Tarica’s column, “Atascadero shoppers deserve better.”
I’m a retailer. I’ve owned Kelly’s Casuals for the past six years, located across the street from the Walmart project. I, as well as other hardworking, “quality” business owners in Atascadero, find your views of shopping in Atascadero very insulting and offensive.
“Cut-rate retailers strung out one after another like a strand of fake pearls.” Really, Joe? There are great business people in the town of Atascadero. Go ahead and contact the wonderful staff at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce and do your homework.
Walmart will not only keep people shopping here, but it also will attract new customers, creating more money flow and tax revenue that will fill empty lots, eventually creating a newly restored, classy town that will bring life to our area.

An estimated 300 new jobs will be attributed to the Walmart store as well as jobs that will open with the completion of surrounding restaurants, office buildings and new stores.
