There’s a routine on “Saturday Night Live” called “Really!” That’s what came to mind when I read that the Pismo Beach city manager said that the invocations referring to Christianity, including references to Jesus, are “proper, good and legal” at City Council meetings. Really! Are the chaplain, the city manager and the council members so insensitive, or are they just assuming that everyone is Christian? Newsflash, folks — you’re wrong. The city’s policy prohibits invoking sectarian deities such as Jesus Christ.
If the council absolutely positively can’t do its job without a religious invocation of some sort, at least abide by the policy that’s in place.
