According to Mr. Robert Matano in The Tribune (Letters, July 5) the Republican Party is attempting to suppress the voting rights of U.S. citizens by demanding a photo identification in order to register and vote. Why is it discriminating against the poor and minorities to ask for a photo ID when voting?
The minorities must show a photo ID when purchasing liquor or cigarettes. Every time you board a plane or train, you must present photo identification. When you apply for any kind of insurance, donate blood, apply for a credit card or cash a check you won’t get very far without photo identification. How about this? Want to visit someone in jail? Yup, you will need photo identification.
So how come Mr. Matano and the Obama Justice Department is opposed to showing a photo ID when casting your ballot? In my opinion, it is to allow the Democratic Party to continue to receive votes from those who are not eligible to vote or have died.
