During a recent Sunday morning interview, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell claimed that the American health care system is “the finest health care system in the world.”
This same falsehood has been stated by Speaker of the House John Boehner. A reference to the World Health Organization statistics or the CIA World Factbook shows America far below first position in such objective measurements as infant mortality and life expectancy. We excel among developed nations only in cost.
Perhaps McConnell’s perception has been altered by his successful heart bypass operation in 2003 at Bethesda Naval Hospital — a government facility staffed by government employees. You could call that socialized medicine similar to a “Western European system,” which he fears.
The hypocrisy and false statements of the Republican leadership have become an insult to the American citizen.
