Have the past few days redeemed one of the most pitiful congressional records ever?
A federal health care law dreamed about by a number of past presidents was upheld by the Supreme Court; the lower interest rate on student loans was extended and a proposal by the president to start rebuilding some of our nation’s crumbling infrastructure was approved.
Do we dare to hope that this bipartisanship and cooperative reasonable thinking will continue when Congress returns from its summer break?
But this is an election year, and the “uber wealthy” will not give up their power and influence willingly. They will expect to realize big returns on their investment in so many of our elected officials. So between now and November, we will recall Bette Davis’ famous words, “Fasten your seat belts ... it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”
