The three flimflam politicians in Sacramento — Gov. Jerry Brown, state Sen. Darrell Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John Pérez — must be very “reasonable” according to Zaf Iqbal’s perspective (June 24), and yet in creating this year’s budget, each of these “reasonable” men must believe in the tooth fairy, leprechauns or the Easter bunny. How else could they come up with a budget that relies on so many gimmicks and the belief that money is going to magically appear?
If they’re betting on the electorate raising taxes in November, this is a risky proposition considering the recent cigarette tax vote. If each got serious about achieving a truly balanced budget, an obvious abhorrent idea to Mr. Iqbal, maybe we might vote for additional revenues. But as long as they play their childish games in Sacramento, how can they expect us to send them additional funds to be flushed down the proverbial toilet?
