Rejection of the proposed cigarette tax bureaucracy, contrary to Joe Tarica’s recent column (“Reaction to column is SMOKIN’!,” June 10), does not “indicate a fundamental lack of faith in our democratic system,” as he says. Rather, it indicates a lack of faith of those currently in control.
Why would that be? Well, rescheduling legislative sessions to avoid losing a little per diem, passing a phony budget as was done last year and again this year, pushing for unneeded bullet trains from here to there are a few reasons. Many others can be found, I am sure.
How many of the hundreds of boards and commissions that Joe Tarica wrote about some time ago are essential? I have not read that any were eliminated.
