I have long admired and supported Sen. Bernie Sanders. However, I believe he is plagued by two poison pills, either of which would be fatal to a run for the presidency of the United States. The first pill is that Sen. Sanders is a socialist — near and dear to my heart but hardly a distinction that will attract the average American voter at this time.
The second pill is that Sen. Sanders is not a member of the Democratic Party — not something that I worry about, but I am certain that the Democratic Party is not ready to nominate a candidate for president who isn’t even a member of the party. I wish the senator from Vermont well, but I doubt that he has a chance at the nomination.
