Have you ever noticed that people who disseminate misinformation in support of their agenda always cry “name-calling!” when they get called on it? (“Say no to sanctuary,” Letters, Aug. 7).
Richard Hubbard simply repeats the bogus arguments attacking the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary that the Sierra Club thoroughly debunked in its July 29 Viewpoint.
Readers interested in seeing even more of those arguments debunked in more detail can read this letter to the Port San Luis Harbor Commission from the Northern Chumash Tribal Council: http://port sanluis.com/Document Center/View/959.
Mr. Hubbard’s empty claim that “hundreds of individuals and groups” are opposed to the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary should be contrasted with the hundreds of individuals and groups with actual names who are listed in support of the sanctuary nomination, which can be read here: http://www.nominate.noaa.gov/nominations.
We support the unique and vital protections and benefits that sanctuary designation will bring to the Central Coast and the equally unique and vital cultural, biological and economic treasure house off our shores.
