Thanks for printing Robert Olson’s letter (“Depraved liberals,” Letters, Aug. 1), providing a textbook illustration of conservative depravity.
Olson’s fervent belief that Planned Parenthood is “selling body parts of aborted children” sounds so much more thrillingly horrifying than the reality of women donating tissue to research and Planned Parenthood facilitating the wishes of the donor at no profit to itself.
That belief is also part of a campaign that is exactly what The New York Times called it: “a dishonest attempt to make legal, voluntary and potentially lifesaving tissue donations appear nefarious and illegal. Lawmakers responding by promoting their own anti-choice agenda are rewarding deception and putting women’s health and their constitutionally protected rights at risk.”
Trying to cut off the source of basic medical care for millions of women, setting back the search for cures to serious diseases and promoting a vicious deception as the basis of your campaign that’s a pretty good definition of the moral depravity of modern conservatism.
Thanks again to The Tribune and Olson for providing an example of the work of those who would “continue lowering the bar for morality and civility in our once-great nation.”
