To Randy Morton (“Scully no longer great,” letters, July 28), the self-proclaimed expert on Vin Scully’s announcing abilities: Why are you such a “hater,” Randy, criticizing Vin Scully that way?
Baseball fans (regardless of team preference) are lucky he still announces at 87 years old. Quit being a “hater” and just sit back and enjoy his broadcast and the 65-plus years of baseball he shares. Give up the S.F. vs. L.A. hatred. I think Jon Miller is great, and I am a Vin Scully fan.
I will just address your July 28 comments, as fans already commented on your letter a month ago, and by the way The Tribune reported no Randy supporters wrote in with comments. I started loving baseball in the early 1960s listening to Vin on my dad’s clock radio. The best announcer in my lifetime — enthusiastic, nonpartial, informative and entertaining.
Vin announces just the home games now to preserve his longevity. You say he is too old to announce but question his lighter schedule? You said The Tribune will only let you write one letter a month; how about you write a letter next month apologizing to Vin Scully and all baseball fans for being a “hater”?
