Tribune columnist Andrea Seastrand makes a lot of noise about “pro life” opinions not getting fair consideration. One of the problems is the name “pro life.”
These right wing people almost without exception support every war and “police action” the United States gets involved in, military actions that kill thousands of civilians as “collateral damage.” They also defend police who shoot unarmed suspects, sometimes in the back. They support abolishing environmental regulations that save the health of us all. They oppose social programs that help children of the poor have a chance to survive and get out of poverty. So on and so forth.
At every turn conservatives promote things that destroy life. Only when it comes to abortion rights and abortions do they raise their voices to defend the “lives” of small groupings of cells that may or may not become human beings eight or nine months later (according to the Center for Disease Control, 91.5 percent of abortions are performed at less than 13 weeks gestation).
So called “pro life” people are truthfully “anti-choice” for women. To be really “pro life” you have to defend human life (and other life, too) all across the board. They should change what they call themselves and be honest.
