Hooray for the residents of the Nipomo area for their attendance at meetings concerning the dust control problem on the Oceano Dunes. Studies show this area has one of the worst air pollution problems in the nation. That should be another wakeup call to the Air Pollution Control District and State Parks. It is proven the traffic on the dunes is the major culprit causing airborne sand.
Health seems to be overlooked by people who think they have a right to ride on the dunes. Contrary to the off-roaders’ opinion, their recreation is not a right, it is privilege. Their privilege is causing major health problems for many residents.
The off-road community generates money for our area and that has influenced the decisions to continue to allow them on the beach. Follow the money trail and the health of the residents is “too bad for you.” We are watching closely as the decisions are being made to alleviate this problem.
