In response to right-wing lobbyist Andrea Seastrand’s sloppy, fact-free attack on me (Tribune, Jan. 21), I’d like to suggest our media look into the biggest taxpayer-funded debacles ever witnessed on the Central Coast, Ms. Seastrand’s $16+ million dollar “Space Authority.”
To my knowledge, this is the only article ever written about the demise of this pork-fed boondoggle: “Space group took $16M in public funds,” Pacific Coast Business Times, June 10, 2011.
Here’s the first line: “The recently dissolved California Space Authority used millions of dollars in federal earmarks and grants.”
I should mention the germ of the “idea” took root in Ms. Seastrand during her one brief term in Congress. As a way to better serve poor “ghetto” kids, according to New York Magazine, Seastrand suggested shooting them into space. “Think of all those poor children trapped in the ghettos. They may want to take a trip into space someday, or even go live there.”
