I was disheartened by Sunday’s Local Viewpoint from Andrea Seastrand (“No room for conservative women in Women’s March movement”). She chastises the Women’s March organizers for not including all viewpoints expressed by women and specifically for not showing support for our two local female county supervisors, Lynn Compton and Debbie Arnold.
She points out that the National Women’s March would not include anti-choice women’s groups. I won’t lecture on all the reasons “choice” is fundamental to women’s and indeed all human rights groups. I also won’t fall into the trap of referring to some groups as pro “abortion” when there hasn’t been a group with that platform since the Nazis.
No woman is trying to encourage more abortions but simply fighting for control over their bodies and choices for birth control and family planning. Both sides should find common ground in working to reduce unwanted pregnancies.
Regarding her comment that “no person who attended the SLO Women’s March and supports” the male candidate Paulding over the female Compton, “can say they are truly working to get more female representation in government.” I must ask Andrea, did you vote for the misogynist Trump over Hillary? Maybe Ms. Seastrand should look in the mirror?
