SLO should connect multi-use bike trails

I couldn’t agree more with Mike Bennett’s protected bike lanes proposal (“Another cyclist has died in San Luis Obispo County; it’s time to act,” Sept. 3), and would add one suggestion: In SLO there are two multi-use bike trails alongside the railroad tracks. One runs from Orcutt Street to the train station, and the other is near Cal Poly.

Why not connect them? This would create a north-south bike conduit from downtown to Foothill Boulevard that is much safer than the disruptive and unpopular Broad Street Bicycle Boulevard proposal.
