Assembly candidate Etta Waterfield has gained the endorsement of Rep. Tom McClintock, one of the state's best-known conservatives.
Waterfield, a former Santa Maria planning commissioner, is running to replace Sam Blakeslee in the 33rd Assembly District, which encompasses San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. Blakeslee cannot run again because of term limits.
She faces three opponents in the June 8 Republican primary: San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Katcho Achadjian, San Luis Obispo financial planner Matt Kokkonen and Paso Robles Councilman Fred Strong.
Santa Maria Councilwoman Hilda Zacarias is the lone Democrat on the ballot.
